I have been a little quiet lately… I have been busy getting ready for this exhibition at the The Old Coastguard in Mousehole which will be hung next week and opens officially on the 16th October, it has suffered a couple of postponements so it feels like it has been a long time coming!

It’s starting to feel very autumnal now, I will be printmaking with some of the Curlew plates over abstract backgrounds later today, I wonder if these autumn colours will feature… this is one I made a few weeks ago When I was trying out ideas, I printed a few on board which is a new thing for me and enjoying these abstract backgrounds.

Happy Equinox…although there will be more dark than light from now…I will try to celebrate the gorgeousness of each day, they say you enjoy the season you are born in the most and for me that’s spring but this morning clothed in mist and a heavy dew and draped in delicate spices webs it is pretty spectacular.

This is a time based moment at which the plane of Earth’s equator passes through the centre of the Sun’s disk, or the moment that the Sun passes the celestial equator. There are approximately equal hours of daylight and darkness. I really find it hard from this time to fit everything into daylight hours, so I seem to struggle mentally a little until the solstice then my spirits lift again as we move towards the light…☀️

Tonight will be a full moon! (12.54am on the 21st September). A full moon occurs when the Moon is 180-degrees from the Sun with the Earth in between. It appears full to the naked eye for about three nights.

Often called the Harvest Moon, however this title belongs to whichever month’s Full Moon is closest to the Autumnal Equinox this year it’s September. Also called singing moon by the Celts, the Barley Moon to the Medieval English, the Corn Moon, Fruit Moon, and Hungry Ghost Moon.

I am in the process of putting together a catalogue for the work I will be exhibiting at the Old Coast Guards in Mousehole from mid October… most of the work explores (in my own mind) the human – animal relationship, but is also inspired by the poetry I love from RS Thomas, Mary Oliver, John Clare, Ted Hughes and many more but also and most importantly the wonderful experience of seeing wildlife in our often tumultuous world.

Those magical momentary glimpses of a Barn Owl, the barely heard hoot of a Tawny Owl or the distant flock of lapwings whilst passing an estuary, or standing under a cloud of 200,000 starlings and trying to ignore the roar of the busy rush hour road close by; the hectic human landscape of wind
turbines, power cables, plastic, and roads ever
present, navigated daily by our wildlife.

There will also be some Birdscapes mostly focusing on three very precious and important landscapes, Stithians Lake, the North Cliffs and Hayle Estuary together with the views from home…always with birds mostly with gulls, corvids and pigeons.

All being well the exhibition will open on the 16th of October… I will be sending the catalogue out to my mailing list subscribers at the end of the month… links in my bio if you would like to receive it.
